[ df ] dream permissions
So, Baku is a creature that devours bad dreams. The worst the dream, the tastier it is, etc, etc.
However, she needs permission to do this! This can be verbal permission given directly to her ("Yes Baku you can eat my dreams") or it can be done via loophole ("Man my dreams suck I wish they'd go away"). She will never eat a good dream (unless she's starved but that's not something I'll be playing with at the moment), and she will never eat a nightmare someone tells her to leave alone.
If your character agrees to let her/she exploits a loophole (with ooc permission) some things will happen:
- Your character will have a nice, restful sleep! But they won't remember any other dreams they may have that night
- On Baku's side, she'll "see" the nightmare in the sense that she'll know what it's about after eating it. So if you're dreaming about your secret Auntie Jane trying to kill you, she'll know about Auntie Jane. She never brings up what she sees, and she will not talk about it with anyone but the person the dream belongs to, and only if they want to
- Your character, upon waking up, will be left with the faintest impressions that Baku was there
Another thing is that Baku is able to pinpoint people who have bad dreams regularly. It's sort of like a sixth sense and if things get desperate, she may approach people ICly to ask if she can eat their dreams.
Below is a handy permissions texty box, please fill out the form and let me know if it's okay/not okay!
Thanks in advance! ♥

Character Name: Takashi "Shiro" Shirogane
Character Journal:
Human?: Yes! (with sliiiiightly enhanced durability)
How frequent are their bad dreams?: Every night. Sleeping? What's that? Do you eat it?
Tl;dr nightmares: OH BOY ok here's the thing. Shiro suffers from PTSD and amnesia. Because of this, his nightmares are very blurry, a mix of actual memories that are trying to come out (he remembers a bit), a big amount of guilt, and the usual craziness your head fills in with when it comes to dreaming. He was a prisoner of an evil alien empire. He lived in a cell, was probably tortured, experimented on (his robo-arm was given to him by them) and sent to fight on a slave ring where he became "Champion" (a title he hates) by having to kill other innocent prisoners. His nightmares are mostly about that, being captured and sent to fight in the ring again, but also includes the witch that gave him the arm taking control of him and making hurt his loved ones, and the voices of those he killed hating on him, etc. I think you get the idea.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: No loophole, he never talks about this aloud. (Or is the thought of the wish alone that she needs?)
If asked, would they give her direct permission? Some time in the future after they get some cr, I'd love to.
Anything else?:

re: the loophole, it's basically like - if anyone acknowledges their nightmares and how they want them to go away, she can use that as her work around to keep herself fed, since there aren't a lot of people who pray to her to get rid of their nightmares anymore.

Character Journal:
Human?: They are... technically human! She's a trickster fae cat spirit hiding inside a human shell for protection from the weight of people's disbelief in fairies...uh. It's complicated.
How frequent are their bad dreams?: They're not too bad. Katie also has the power to influence and control dreams, so she tends to work high maintenance on her own nightmares, l-lmao.
Tl;dr nightmares: Nothing specific.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: If it ever becomes a thing, Y!
If asked, would they give her direct permission? Probably not, but that's because Katie wouldn't need the assistance. But if for plot purposes she couldn't manage it on her own, it's possible.
Anything else?: HI HELLO I AM ANOTHER DREAM CREATURE HOW DO. Also another cat creature! Katie sees echoes of people's recurring nightmares/obsessions etcetera, so if Baku ever ate a person's recurring nightmares, the sudden lack of echoes would be a giveaway that something odd happened, but she wouldn't immediately jump to "someone ate them". She'd probably investigate at that point, though. And if she found out, she'd probably get tetchy unless and until she realised Baku sought permission first, at which point she'd be like "oh cool carry on, also can I direct you to this other person I know who won't stop dreaming of maniacal elevators because that shit is whack".
...they would have a lot in common, I think. :D Here is her permissions page with a little more info on the echoes.

Character Name: Nami
Character Journal:
Human?: Yes!
How frequent are their bad dreams?: At the moment they're pretty common; the planet being destroyed had a massive impact on her.
Tl;dr nightmares: Planets dying. Sometimes the one that actually died, sometimes she just dreams of her own world getting hit out of nowhere, death, destruction, apocalypses. Every now and then she'll dream of a giant monster shark man being an asshole and shooting her mom, because that's an old childhood one that comes up now and then. And sometimes the two different dreams will decide to mangle themselves together just for extra fun and it sucks. She's not dreaming all night erry night, but she's certainly dreaming enough that she's no longer going to bed without taking a glass of booze first.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Y!
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" ...I don't know. I think it depends on how that played out. Nami kneejerk goes HELL NO at people messing with her head, so... I think it's likely a no, but any CR they have before that may change things.
Character Name: Makie
Character Journal:
Human?: Yes!
How frequent are their bad dreams?: Once in a blue moon. Makie rarely dreams, and they're usually nice ones.
Tl;dr nightmares: IDK if she ever did dream of bad shit it'd probably be like "why am I coughing up blood again I thought I was cured" and being too sick with TB to save a friend or something. But that'd be very rare.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Y!
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Y!

Character Journal:
Human?: Ye
How frequent are their bad dreams?: uuuuuuhh like once or twice a week
Tl;dr nightmares: IT DEPENDS on...how stressed/upset he is tbh. On the one hand, he sometimes has low-level anxiety dreams that mostly involve running through an empty tent city with the overwhelming sense that something BAD is happening and he has to find and help people but there's never anyone there, and there are signs of violence and he CAN'T DO ANYTHING. The worst is like. Him sitting in an empty, blood-covered space shuttle while a countdown clock ominously ticks down. Anything in between is like. Fucking up his job and people getting hurt, or dreams about identical women with long black hair. Uh. Yeah, generally if it's a bad dream it's about everything going to hell and his inability to help. Although probably he also sometimes has bad dreams involved with the fact that his leg is amputated but that.....doesn't happen very often and only if something has come up to trigger him thinking about that a lot.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: yeah, definitely!
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Prrrrrrobably not no. Depends on CR, but probably not.
...I may edit with Sayid later, but I feel like he has far fewer bad dreams. Felix is the main one where this would be relevant.

Character Journal:
Human?: Yes and no-- elezen are really just humans with pointy ears. I don't think they have the power of longevity or anything, just being 8 feet tall. Which Alphinaud is not.
How frequent are their bad dreams?: tbh probably weekly. He gets bad dreams a lot.
Tl;dr nightmares: Alphinaud sees several people close to him dying -- including his grandfather, several of his traveling companions, and his own soldiers who were loyal to him. Sometimes he also sees people who are still alive and fine, like the Warrior of Light (sometimes looks like Rose Qeido, sometimes looks like a generic but boyishly faced human), and his own twin sister.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Y
If asked, would they give her direct permission? If he was told that she needed it and it would help him sleep better, then yes.
Anything else?: My other character, Dezel, doesn't need to sleep bc he's not human... so that's why I'm not filling it out for him. He would be like FUCK OFFF!!!!! if she jumped into his nightmares about his friends dying, and that would be that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorry............

Character Journal:
Human?: He is an Independent Plant. Not in the flowers and grass type plant, but more like a factory. Plants were created by humans and are a mix of organic life and a life support system machinery that allows people to terraform and create/destroy pretty much anything with nearly unlimited power if regulated correctly. Vash is an Independent Plant as he was born from a Plant. Making him all organic and able to live without needing to be connected to life support.
How frequent are their bad dreams?: Semi regularly. They tend to come and go in terms of frequency/terror level depending on the time of year and what's been happening lately.
Tl;dr nightmares: Some of the topics that could come up: Giant holes being shot into a moon. Blowing up cities. His twin brother laughing and doing evil things (tm), being unable to control his own body, space ships (none that match those of Dift Fleet) exploding, a woman named Rem dying/looking disappointed, friends and family members dying, mass graves, watching the people he love grow old and die as he just watches, his left arm being shot off, and so many other lovely things.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Sure
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Probably
Anything else?: My plurk is:
Character Name: Manji
Character Journal:
Human?: He's human! But he has blood worms in his body that make him immortal!
How frequent are their bad dreams?: He doesn't have nightmares very often. Only on the rare occasion like a normal person might.
Tl;dr nightmares: His sister's murder. Him killing people he shouldn't. A young woman freezing to death in a river. Being trapped in an underground prison.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Yup
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Unlikely
Anything else?: That's it!
A Vash nightmare as requested! - Contact warning: Blood and death
He’s walking to the Space Bar for work, but what he’s really excited about is that Kitty has asked him to join her for dinner.] Oh man! I can hardly wait!
[He pops another donut into his mouth and strides happily through the doors of the Space Bar.] Hey, Nami! I’m here--- [His words catch in his throat when he sees all the blood splattered across the bar, walls, and floor. He can hear laughter echoing all around. A voice so very similar to his own but just a little lower. Vash turns and runs out of the bar as it’s the only way he can stop staring at all the dead that are inside.
Outside the loud hustle and bustle of the Iskaulit is gone. It’s eerily quiet as Vash runs through the halls yelling for any sort of life. Room after room there are signs of life. Warm food left out at the restaurant. The bags someone had been carrying on the floor where they were set down and forgotten about. Even the arctic room with the foxes is empty.]
No, no, no! He can’t do this again! I— He’s—
Dead? [A new calming male voice, different from the laughter before, answers. Vash freezes in place unable to turn around and face it.] Have you really forgotten about me, Vash the Stampede? [The man sounds disappointed and hurt.] You seemed to have moved on and forgotten what you have done. So here I am to remind you.
No, I couldn’t.
Look at me. [Vash doesn’t move. He doesn’t want to turn around and see.] I said look at me. [The man’s voice doesn’t raise in volume or anger, but the command is clearly there. Vash can feel the pulling sensation in his muscles. One he has felt before where he is unable to control his own body as he’s forced to turn around.
There stands a man with a neutral expression on his face. The most striking thing about him besides his interesting shade of blue hair or the odd instrument of torture on his shoulder is the blood constantly pouring from the gunshot wound to his forehead.] You stole my future from me. So why do you get to be happy now? [Vash doesn’t have an answer.] They’re lying you know. Time hasn’t stopped back on that dusty planet. With you out of the way I’m sure my master has finally turned that world into the paradise it was meant to be.
NO!
Yes. [The man seems unconcerned with Vash’s outburst.] It shall be ready by the time you return home. In the meantime, I cannot allow another human to distract you again.
Legato, what do you mean? [The man only smiles. As Vash still has no control over his own body.] WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? [There’s an agonizing scream that echoes all around.] KITTY! [And now the man laughs finally letting Vash go and giving him back control over his own body. Vash turns and runs towards where he thought he heard the scream, but he never seems to get any closer. No matter how far or fast he runs that laughter stays in his ears and the screaming continues on and on.]

Character Journal:
Human?: ya; he has some powerful pacts with some really buffed out elemental spirits, if that means anything
How frequent are their bad dreams?: he has a couple recurring, but they're not frequent
Tl;dr nightmares: Of the two recurring,
One: his heart's been hollowed out, his eyes are just gored holes, his mouth is gone. He's a hellion so all he wants is to both destroy everything and drag everything to him selfishly; he tries to convince himself not to have his dragon wipe villages off the map. He's both terrified and furious at being abandoned.
Two: There's a great huge blue dragon dying in the mud, and Sorey as a human is sobbing and clinging to his neck because he loves him so dearly. And the dragon is dying because of him, so.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: yup
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Uhh he would if he thought she was starving, but otherwise he might be wary
Anything else?: nah

Human?: Angel
How frequent are their bad dreams?: nah he don't dream
Tl;dr nightmares: n/a
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: n/a
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" n/a
Anything else?: Cas can dreamwalk, so he would probably be able to see her eating or might be able to peek in on her eating. He doesn't really do much delving anymore because it's invasive, though.

Character Journal:
Human?: Human
How frequent are their bad dreams?: oh my god, all the time
Tl;dr nightmares: TAKE YOUR PICK. he has nightmares he barely remembers in the morning of being a lab rat (injections, being cut open, being submerged in radioactive chemicals for days); sephiroth pulling apart his head and piloting his body like a puppet; just standing there and watching as aerith is killed; sephiroth using his body to beat the shit out of aerith like a couple days before that; betraying all his friends and giving their enemy the one thing he needs to destroy the world; kneeling there in the mud while zack slowly bleeds to death in the rain; THERE'S A BUNCH.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: yes
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" LMAO NO, at least not until he trusted her
Anything else?:

Character Journal:
Human?: Demigod
How frequent are their bad dreams?: Reoccurring. Though he can move through dreams - his and others' - he can get stuck in his own nightmares.
Tl;dr nightmares: He'll dream of falling into and/or trying to survive in Tartarus (a literal hellscape where everything is trying to kill him). Or of people he loves falling in, and being helpless to save them. Of being trapped somewhere small with no air or food. He'll dream of his sister walking away from him. Or her ghost rejecting him. He'll dream of a hotel lobby exploding and everyone, including his mother, dying. He'll see himself fading away into a shadow. A werewolf chasing after him, or even catching him and tearing him apart. Sometimes, he'll dream that he's at camp, but no one wants him there. They'll call him a freak, or creepy.
Can Baku exploit her loophole to eat your nightmares?: Y
If asked, would they give her direct permission?" Y. Though some kind of trust would have to be established first.
Anything else?: Nico can move through dreams and communicate with dreamers. I think he would be aware of someone eating dreams. He can pulled into "strong" dreams - good or bad, but usually bad - so it would be disorienting if some of those dreams disappeared. I think that would be a fun thing to explore.
